COMPULSIONS /
Compulsions are performed in response to obsessions in attempt to obtain (temporary) relief. This temporary relief is reinforcing, and the individual with OCD fails to learn they can cope and move forward in life without doing compulsions.
Rituals are done to avoid anxiety/uncertainty just as much or more than to avoid the feared consequence.
